"One day Ruth, the Moabite foreigner, said to Naomi, “I’m going to work; I’m going out to glean among the sheaves, following after some harvester who will treat me kindly.”
Ruth 2:2a The Message
So I was thinking about the word "glean." In the scripture above, Ruth tells her mother-in-law, Naomi, that she's going out to the field to pick up grain left by the harvesters. The hope is that the harvesters or the owners of the land will be kind enough to know that there are others who will come after seeking to get something of value to help feed their families.
Essentially, glean means to gather.
ModPers is about gleaning information. Or better still, sort through information to see what is valuable. That's one of the ideas I'd like to teach here within the blog conversations. How do you glean or gather information, and then sort through it to discover what's valuable for you? Also, we can consider, what makes information valuable? Does the source add to its value? Of course! Does the context add to the value? Sure! How about way the question is asked, does that make a difference in the answer? Absolutely!
Using formal terms like "information" may seem like what we're talking about isn't fun or interesting. Oh but it is! Everything used for learning is information. If I wanted to learn how to make a PB&J, I need recipe information. If I wanted a new pair of high-waisted jeans, I need information. You get the point.
So what are you gleaning at the moment?
I'm currently looking to understand my spirit better. I'm also curious about finding purpose. I'm interested in family planning, building, and management. That sounds formal but really I just mean, lifestyle stuff for me and my family. And of course library and information stuff! Let's search for cool interesting ideas together.
