Writer's pictureThe Modest Perspicacious Librarian

Hey...

Wow, it's been a while, huh? Well, I'm still here, working away in the academic library world now. As a newly appointed research librarian, I'm learning the differences between public and academic libraries. So many differences, yet many similarities too.

My new idea is to just drop some posts here and there to discuss some observations I have with my work life and personal life. I'll also post some cool curated info that you may find helpful.

So today, I taught a quick reference class to some Rhetoric 101 students who have an assignment to write an essay proving a point and needing creditable sources to prove it. I won't go into too much detail as the full assignment to maintain some anonymity, but one thing I hope I was able to convey was how to and where to start looking for credible sources, AND, the point that research even for small papers takes time.

Even a quick 3-5 page essay with a couple of resources can still take up to 6 hours of concentrated time. However, let's be clear, you can always BS your way through too, but why?

Share with me what tips you would give for finding creditable information. Who do you trust and why? Here's a good question, are opinions good sources? What makes one person's opinion more credible than another?

Okay talk soon..byeee
